Maryland Bankers Association and Maryland Bankers Association affiliates (collectively MBA) values and respects the privacy of its members, staff, volunteers, and others served by MBA, including those who visit MBA’s website. MBA expects its members, staff, volunteers, and others that have access to confidential or proprietary information through MBA to use that information only in compliance with applicable law and to observe appropriate boundaries if communicating online when representing MBA.
Most information that MBA collects is used only to help MBA better serve our members. It is our policy to collect and store personal information only if that information is knowingly provided to MBA. If our policies regarding collection and storage of personal information change, we will give notice of that change by an announcement on MBA’s website.
General Information on Collection, Usage, and Retention. MBA collects data from member organizations, staff, volunteers, and other users of MBA products or services (including users of MBA’s website) in order to meet MBA’s mission, to serve member and volunteer needs, and/or to provide information that MBA believes will be useful. This data may on occasion be shared with other organizations that provide products or services to the financial services industry.
Disclosures to Third Parties. MBA may make member, staff, volunteer, and others contact information collected by or provided to MBA available to other members, service providers, persons who register for its events, and other requesters, including through Membership & Committee Directories, event registrations, and other listings. MBA may also provide data to third parties that offer products or services for their business purposes to the extent permitted by applicable law and after receiving appropriate assurances from them that the intended usage will be in accordance with applicable law.
Website. MBA does not collect personal information from users browsing its website. MBA may, however, collect aggregate, non-personally identifying information and data from access to MBA’s website -- such as the number of hits per page. Aggregate data are only used for MBA internal and marketing purposes.
Members, Conference Registrants, and Other Customers. To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on MBA's website, members and other users are asked to register and provide limited information. These data are submitted voluntarily. Similar information may be submitted to and retained by MBA through membership applications, event registration, publication orders, and subscriptions. Additionally, for some emails sent by MBA to its members, MBA will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. For example, MBA may monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other information collected through this tracking feature includes, but is not limited to: email address of a user; date and time of the user's "click"; a message number; name of the list from which the message was sent; tracking URL number; and destination page. MBA uses this information to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members and others. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.
Data Collected Via the Website. MBA uses information voluntarily submitted by members, staff, volunteers, and others in the following ways:
(a)Member Services and Products. Generally, MBA uses data collected: to improve website contents; to respond to website visitors' interests, needs, and preferences; and to develop new products and services.
(b)Credit Card Account Information. When a person chooses to pay using a credit or debit card, MBA submits the information as needed to third parties (e.g., the appropriate clearinghouse) to obtain payment. MBA maintains such information only to the extent necessary to provide a record of the transaction and only in a secure manner for a reasonable period of time. Such information is then disposed of in a secure manner in accordance with law applicable to data disposal.
(c) Cookies. Cookies are files that contain information created by a web server that can be stored on a user's hard disk for use either during a particular session ("per-session" cookie) or for future use ("persistent" cookie). MBA uses cookies only to facilitate automated activity, store and track passwords, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are not used to disseminate significant information about users over the Internet or to analyze any information that users have knowingly or unknowingly provided. When a user registers, the system will ask whether the user approves of the attachment of a cookie. Users may instruct their Internet browsers to opt out of accepting a "persistent" cookie and instead accept only a "per-session" cookie. If the user declines the attachment of any cookie, the user may not have access to the full benefits of the website. Registration enables the site to better determine a use’s interest areas and provide the most relevant information.
Other Sites. When MBA’s website contains links to other websites, MBA has no control over and is not responsible for the information usage policies or content of such sites.
Public Communication/Online Communication/Social Media 1.Any MBA public or membership communication will be made only by or through specifically-authorized staff or volunteers. When a volunteer, member, or staff communicates through public or online social media they represent only themselves unless the specific communication has been authorized by MBA.
2.MBA may disclose any communications and/or activities a person has with MBA in response to lawful requests by governmental authorities and for the protection of MBA’s rights. Any person using MBA resources agrees that in the event MBA exercises any of its rights for any reason, MBA will have no liability to that person.
3.Any person who posts any content on an MBA-approved social media site grants to MBA the irrevocable rights to reproduce, distribute, publish, and display such content, and the right to create derivative works from the content, edit or modify such content, and use such content for any MBA purposes.
4.Any person who posts any content on any MBA social media site or website shall defend, indemnify, and hold MBA and its respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, successors, and assigns harmless from and against, and shall promptly reimburse MBA, any or all losses, claims, damages, settlements, costs, and liabilities of any nature whatsoever (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) to which any of them may become subject arising out of, based upon, as a result of, or in any way connected with that person’s posting.
5.All persons posting on or otherwise using MBA-approved social media sites or websites expressly acknowledge that they assume all responsibility related to the security, privacy, and confidentiality risks inherent in sending content over the Internet. By its very nature, a social media site, website, and the Internet in general cannot be absolutely protected against intentional or malicious intrusion attempts. MBA does not control the third-party sites and the Internet over which a person may choose to send confidential personal information or other non-MBA approved content and therefore MBA does not warrant any safeguard against any such interceptions or compromises to personal information when posting any such content. Each person must carefully consider his or her own privacy in disclosing detailed or private information about themselves or their families. Furthermore, MBA does not endorse any product, service, view, or content published or displayed in such communications unless the specific endorsement has been authorized by MBA.
