Government Relations

MBA’s Public Policy team actively advocates for Maryland’s banking industry, meeting with federal and state lawmakers, regulators, and policymakers to share member concerns and stay ahead of proposed laws and regulations. MBA also participates in legislative workgroups and task forces shaping new policies.

MBA’s Government Relations Council (GRC) reviews and monitors hundreds of bills each year, supporting legislation that benefits the industry and working to amend or stop measures that do not. During the General Assembly session, MBA provides members‑only legislative bulletins and a post‑session Legislative Summary Report.

MBA represents Maryland banks before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, including filing amicus briefs on significant legal issues affecting the industry. Learn more about local and federal legislation here.

Maryland BankPAC

MBA sponsors the Maryland Bankers Political Action Committee (Maryland BankPAC), which supports state and federal candidates who understand and value the banking industry. Led by a committee of banking representatives, the PAC raises funds from institutions and industry leaders to make contributions through both a state and federal PAC. Learn more here.

Legislative Events

Bankers are encouraged to engage directly with policymakers through meetings and MBA legislative events. Learn more here.

Grassroots Advocacy

A strong industry depends on active involvement from Maryland bank employees. MBA’s Direct Contact Bankers program mobilizes bankers to communicate with policymakers when key issues arise, providing talking points and contact information to support timely outreach. These bankers serve as the frontline of MBA’s grassroots advocacy.
