Meet the Speakers!
Tom Barkin is President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, a position he has held since 2018. As a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, he helps shape U.S. monetary policy and provides leadership on banking supervision and technology initiatives across the Federal Reserve System. Barkin is closely engaged with economic issues throughout the Fifth Federal Reserve District, which includes Maryland. Prior to joining the Richmond Fed, he was Senior Partner and Chief Financial Officer at McKinsey & Company. He holds bachelor’s, MBA, and law degrees from Harvard University.
Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman is Maryland’s 34th Comptroller and the first woman independently elected to a statewide constitutional office. Since taking office in 2023, she has led the agency responsible for the state’s fiscal oversight, tax administration, and economic accountability. Prior to serving as Comptroller, she represented Baltimore City in the Maryland House of Delegates for eight years, where she held leadership roles on key budget and policy committees. An attorney by training, Comptroller Lierman is a recognized leader in economic and fiscal policy, working to strengthen Maryland’s economy and support long-term prosperity across the state.
Dr. Daraius Irani is Vice President of Business and Public Engagement and Chief Economist for the Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) at Towson University. With more than 25 years of leadership experience at Towson University, he specializes in economic, fiscal impact, and policy analysis. Dr. Irani has led more than 500 research projects and produced over 450 economic and fiscal impact studies for government, nonprofit, and private-sector clients. A frequent speaker on Maryland’s economy, he is regularly featured in regional and national media for his economic insights.
