Educational Tools
Through the years, the MBA has developed a wide range of tools for bankers to use in consumer education efforts in schools, in their institutions, and in the communities they serve. By various activities, initiatives and partnerships, the MBA continually works toward educating Marylanders on financial literacy and developing a strong understanding of the financial ABCs.
In 2004, MBA elevated consumer education to one of its five mission areas (communications, consumer education, advocacy, professional development and services) further demonstrating out commitment and pledge to educate Maryland residents on financial literacy.
MBA's ongoing initiatives include educating the State's bankers on how to offer consumer education projects in their respective communities and supporting national focus events such as Get Smart About Credit Day and Teach Children to Save Day. MBA also support the ongoing mission of the Maryland Coalition for Financial Literacy. The Association was a founding member of this organization which is striving to include financial literacy instruction as a graduation requirement for every Maryland high school graduate.
MBA's goal is to ensure that every child in Maryland has consistent access to quality financial literacy education so that their financial ABCs are as well known as other basic life skills.
MBA is pleased to support these great programs:
- Maryland Coalition for Financial Literacy
- ABA Education Foundation

Professional bankers present sessions that expand the students' knowledge of career opportunities beyond the teller position by exposing them to the inner world of banking in areas such as lending, bookeeping/finance, marketing, human resources, branch management, training, customer service and technology. Students also learn leadership skills from a CEO and develop a better understanding of how banks serve their customers. Participation in the Build-A-Banker program is by invitation. MBA conducts two sessions annually, one in the Spring and one in the Fall.
